Some of Perth's best female dance choreographers will be teaching their favourite styles and routines for Perth Hype's Urban Alliance Workshops to be held on Sunday, October 25.
Single Ladies, Divas and the Bootylicious were out in full force at the Burswood Dome on Thursday night to see their idol Beyoncé Knowles take to the stage for the first time in Perth.
Support act Jessica Mauboy got the crowd ready for the superstar with her chart topping hits Running Back, Up And Down and Burn, before Flo-Rida hit the stage to perform his hip pop platinum singles Right Round, In The Ayer, and Get Low. Although Flo-Rida was more a hype man than a singer he kept the teens entertained with his routine which frequently saw him shed his clothes and throw autographed towels out to the masses.
After a short break, the 18,000 strong was soon greeted by a black stage with one solid backlight and there stood the silhouette of the superstar singer that many adore.
The erupted into cheers, screams and stomping from the stands, whilst the infamous riff from Beyoncé’s first solo mega-hit Crazy In Love kicked the show off.
The golden bodysuit adorned singer bellowed track after track and hit after hit. Her haunting rendition of Ave Maria left the crowd speechless, whilst her controversial song If I Was A Boy featured a breakdown which included Beyoncé rocking out to her own rendition of Alanis Morrisette’s You Outta Know.
From there, the singer followed it up with Naughty Girl and Me, Myself & I, before changing into a Sasha Fierce style body suit to perform Diva and Radio; complete with a home video featuring a young Beyoncé smiling and singing away. It was obvious the singer had stars in her eyes from a very young age.
Backed by an all female band, which each member was introduced to the crowd during Beyoncé’s many costume changes , it was evident the spirit of the I Am tour was all about female empowerment, which was confirmed by the Queen B herself.
“I'm here to empower all you ladies," she said. "That's why every musician on stage tonight is a woman."
Returning to the stage in a gold leotard with a sparkling golden train, the diva was hoisted into the air and flown across the crowd to a stage in the middle of the Dome as she sang Baby Boy, and it was evident she was enjoying every minute of it.
She didn’t forget her roots either, regularly breaking into Destiny’s Child songs Say My Name, Jumpin Jumpin’, Bug A Boo, Independent Women and Lose My Breath.
Back into her solo efforts with Check On It, and Video Phone; Beyoncé used actual cameras on mobiles held by her dancers to record her dancing and singing on the smaller stage. She even mimicked her husband’s (Jay-Z’s) swagger and style on Upgrade U.
After another dress change, Beyoncé returned in a stunning evening gown to perform the Etta James classic At Last. Her rendition left even the singer with goose-bumps.
A montage of Youtube videos featuring fans performing the Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) routine (complete with a cameo appearance from JT and the Saturday Night Live gang with their infamous spoof) Beyoncé hit the stage to perform the track and saw many in the crowd the same moves.
Halo was the highlight of the show, as an image of Michael Jackson appeared on the screen and Beyoncé explained the impact the King Of Pop had on her career. She sang “Michael we can see your halo, I pray it won’t fade away.”
She ended the show with Happy Birthday before telling the crowd “I am…Perth, I am…Perth. Perth Australia. I am Yours.”
Her solid and strong vocals put her up there with the likes of Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick and Tina Turner. Add to this amazing visuals, high energy dance performances and glittering costumes, the I Am ...Tour left the crowd in awe from start to finish, making it evident that Queen B really is just that...Generation Y’s Queen.

Award Ceremonies and Kanye West controversies seem to go hand in hand, and this year's MTV Video Music Awards seem to be no exception...
